Techlite® Composite Panels in Obsidian™ are designed for architects, interior designers, and sound engineers who require acoustic performance paired with enhanced panel stability. Manufactured using Basotect® Ecobalanced Melamine Foam integrated with a rigid backing, these panels provide consistent sound absorption while supporting applications where added structure or defined mounting conditions are required across interior environments.

This composite construction allows for greater design flexibility without compromising acoustic performance. For sound engineers, it delivers reliable control of reflections and improved room clarity. For architects, it supports precise alignment across wall systems and integrated features. For interior designers, the Obsidian™ finish introduces a deep, uniform surface that complements contemporary material palettes while maintaining a refined visual presence.

In addition to performance, Techlite® Composite Panels align with sustainability-focused project goals. Basotect® Ecobalanced Melamine Foam contributes to responsible material selection and may assist in achieving LEED-related credits tied to Indoor Environmental Quality and Materials & Resources. The panels are also Class A fire-rated per ASTM E84, ensuring compliance with interior fire safety requirements.

Obsidian™ Coloration & Visual Character

Obsidian™ is a deep, dark charcoal acoustic foam with subtle blue undertones. Depending on lighting conditions, it can range from a rich charcoal gray to a dark navy hue—and when installed in high ceilings or low-light environments, it presents as visually black.

The result is an acoustic material that integrates seamlessly into contemporary architecture while delivering the performance Techlite® is known for. For applications requiring an ultimate, rich black appearance, Obsidian™ panels may be coated utilizing Techlite®’s proprietary paint system.
