The TECHLITE® Designer Gill Acoustic Panel in Obsidian introduces a layered, fin-inspired profile that enhances both acoustic responsiveness and architectural character. Its repeated vertical contours establish cadence and depth across wall or ceiling applications, allowing architects and interior designers to create striking visual continuity while integrating high-performance absorption. For sound engineers, the varied surface geometry increases sound-wave interaction, contributing to controlled reverberation and improved acoustic balance.

Produced utilizing Basotect® Ecobalanced Melamine Foam, the Gill panel delivers consistent broadband absorption within a lightweight and structurally stable format designed exclusively for interior environments. The open-cell structure mitigates reflected sound, supports speech intelligibility, and enhances occupant comfort in commercial offices, hospitality venues, educational facilities, and cultural interiors. The material is inherently flame resistant and achieves Class A fire-rated performance per ASTM E 84, meeting critical life-safety criteria for interior specification.

Beyond acoustic and safety performance, the TECHLITE® Designer Gill Acoustic Panel supports environmentally responsible design strategies. Basotect® Ecobalanced Melamine Foam is manufactured through a reduced carbon footprint approach and may assist project teams pursuing LEED-related credits, including low-emitting materials and sustainable sourcing considerations. This convergence of environmental accountability and acoustic engineering ensures performance without compromise.

Obsidian Coloration & Visual Character

Obsidian is a deep, dark charcoal acoustic foam with subtle blue undertones. Depending on lighting conditions, it can range from a rich charcoal gray to a dark navy hue—and when installed in high ceilings or low-light environments, it presents as visually black.

The result is an acoustic material that integrates seamlessly into contemporary architecture while delivering the performance Techlite® is known for. For applications requiring an ultimate, rich black appearance, Obsidian panels may be coated utilizing Techlite®’s proprietary paint system.

Sound Absorption

Sound Absorption Testing to ASTM Standard C-348-85 indicates a better than 90% absorption coefficient at a frequency of 2000 Hz when using 2” thick TECHLITE foam. Combined with a Class A fire rating, excellent thermal insulating value, its light weight and low toxicity, TECHLITE is an excellent choice for your application.
