The TECHLITE® Designer Apex Acoustic Panel in Obsidian introduces crisp geometry and faceted dimension to interior environments requiring disciplined acoustic control. Its peaked profile generates shadow lines and visual contrast, enabling architects and interior designers to articulate feature walls and ceiling planes with intentional form. For sound engineers, the angled surface geometry increases sound interaction, supporting efficient absorption and improved spatial balance.
Constructed utilizing Basotect® Ecobalanced Melamine Foam, the Apex panel offers high-performance broadband sound absorption in a lightweight, structurally stable configuration suited for interior applications. The open-cell composition reduces reverberation, enhances speech intelligibility, and stabilizes acoustic conditions in corporate offices, hospitality venues, learning environments, and collaborative spaces. The material is inherently flame resistant and achieves Class A fire-rated performance per ASTM E 84, aligning with stringent interior code requirements.
In addition to measurable acoustic performance, the TECHLITE® Designer Apex Acoustic Panel supports sustainable specification strategies. Basotect® Ecobalanced Melamine Foam is produced through a reduced carbon footprint process and may contribute to LEED-related credits, including low-emitting materials and responsible material selection. This integration of acoustic engineering, architectural expression, and environmental responsibility positions the Apex panel as a forward-thinking interior solution.
Obsidian Coloration & Visual CharacterObsidian is a deep, dark charcoal acoustic foam with subtle blue undertones. Depending on lighting conditions, it can range from a rich charcoal gray to a dark navy hue—and when installed in high ceilings or low-light environments, it presents as visually black. The result is an acoustic material that integrates seamlessly into contemporary architecture while delivering the performance Techlite® is known for. For applications requiring an ultimate, rich black appearance, Obsidian panels may be coated utilizing Techlite®’s proprietary paint system. Sound Absorption
Sound Absorption Testing to ASTM Standard C-348-85 indicates a better than 90% absorption coefficient at a frequency of 2000 Hz when using 2” thick TECHLITE foam. Combined with a Class A fire rating, excellent thermal insulating value, its light weight and low toxicity, TECHLITE is an excellent choice for your application.
