View full details

The TECHLITE® Designer Hills and Valleys Acoustic Panel in Obsidian brings a landscape-inspired surface profile into acoustically demanding interiors. Its alternating peaks and recessed channels generate depth, shadow, and visual texture across wall and ceiling applications, enabling architects and interior designers to shape immersive environments with integrated sound control. For sound engineers, the varied elevations increase surface interaction, promoting effective reverberation management and improved spatial balance.

Produced utilizing Basotect® Ecobalanced Melamine Foam, this panel system provides reliable broadband absorption in a lightweight, dimensionally stable format engineered exclusively for interior environments. The open-cell structure reduces reflected sound energy, enhances speech clarity, and supports occupant comfort in corporate offices, hospitality venues, education facilities, and cultural spaces. The material is inherently flame resistant and achieves Class A fire-rated performance per ASTM E 84, aligning with interior life-safety requirements.

Sustainability remains central to specification. Basotect® Ecobalanced Melamine Foam is manufactured through a reduced carbon footprint process and may contribute toward LEED-related credits, including low-emitting materials and environmentally responsible sourcing strategies. By combining sculptural form, measurable acoustic performance, and environmental consideration, the TECHLITE® Designer Hills and Valleys Acoustic Panel supports comprehensive interior design objectives.

Obsidian Coloration & Visual Character

Obsidian is a deep, dark charcoal acoustic foam with subtle blue undertones. Depending on lighting conditions, it can range from a rich charcoal gray to a dark navy hue—and when installed in high ceilings or low-light environments, it presents as visually black.

The result is an acoustic material that integrates seamlessly into contemporary architecture while delivering the performance Techlite® is known for. For applications requiring an ultimate, rich black appearance, Obsidian panels may be coated utilizing Techlite®’s proprietary paint system.

Sound Absorption

Sound Absorption Testing to ASTM Standard C-348-85 indicates a better than 90% absorption coefficient at a frequency of 2000 Hz when using 2” thick TECHLITE foam. Combined with a Class A fire rating, excellent thermal insulating value, its light weight and low toxicity, TECHLITE is an excellent choice for your application.
